Amazon Feedback

"This thing is figuratively worth its weight in gold. I used it to cut plugs, dig holes for the plugs, and fill the holes with potting soil... all with the same tool! Did almost 5000 plugs in one day! Just a tip... wear gloves, because after a couple thousand plunges, the handles start making blisters on the tops of your thumbs, where the handle pivots in your hand. Could not be happier, though!"

Sod Plugger

Instructions for use of this unit are clear and easy to understand. It is simple to operate and fascinating in what it does so easily. It is made of adequately strong, heavy wall tubing that seems like it will last a long time. One frustration with its use is that it will tend to get plugged up itself if the soil or clay is too wet. Otherwise, the unit releases plugs very easily upon turning it upside down.

I bought this based on the reviews and didn't use it for a while. Now that I have tried it the return window has expired. It did not work at all for me. If you hit even a small stone it won't go down any further...

Pro Plugger

Good design but don't use it when the ground is too wet or it will plug up and don't make the mistake of tapping the sides to get the plugs to free up because the steel is too thin and it will dent. I think they should use a little thicker steel to make the tool more durable. Good design though.

(ProPlugger Representative) You bring up some very important points. Wet soil compresses easily, causing the plugs to press out against the inside of the tube which can cause clogging. The instructions that come with the plugger (as well as an instruction decal attached to the plugger) warn against trying to pull plugs when the soil is too wet or overly dry. They also describe a handy method of clearing clogs which is to use a common water hose with a jet nozzle attached and direct the stream of water up into tube from the bottom. This will clear the obstruction without damaging the tube. Striking the outside of the main tube in an effort to clear the clogged plugs should be avoided. It's made of 18 gauge steel which is durable enough to provide years of service while also easily slicing into the ground to pull plugs.

Lives up to the hype

...ProPlugger makes amazingly short work of what would otherwise have been a tedious & exhausting task. Along with being able to work from a standing position to remove the plugs or pesky weeds, I love the ability to sprinkle in my fertilizer, seeds or zip bulbs right down the tube into the hole. Just put your earbuds in, crank up some Doobie Brothers & let this thing do the work for you...

Pretty good

I'm using the plugger to transplant zoysia from my front yard to the back. Overall it's well built and does what you want it to. My main complaint is that when removing multiple plugs they do not just slip out of the tube as in the videos I saw. We have some clay in our soil here so that may be affecting performance somewhat, but I almost always need to poke and prod the plugs before they'll slip out...

Outstanding product

I planted zoysia seed last year, and knew I would need some way to fill in some of the bad spots this season. I researched these products online, and found this one. I got one for Christmas and finally used it yesterday, and it works great for pulling and placing sod plugs. Very easy to use, easy to clean, etc. - it does just what it's supposed to do, and does it well.
Next week I will use it to plant 100 gladiolus bulbs. This will be better than an augur, or step-on bulb planter, because the shaft of the plugger holds the plugs as you go along. For example, you can cut out 20-21 2" sod plugs at one time.

Should be Product of the Year! ProPlugger works, it just works! Made in USA to boot!

The ProPlugger XL I ordered from Amazon arrived on time. The sun was going down but I was anxious to try it. I have been wanting to encircle my pine island with transplanted Lirope. After clearing the edge of weeds, etc., the ProPlugger took me about 25 minutes to make the holes, harvest, and transplant over 150 Lirope plugs. The job was done before the sun went down! I am going to use it to grow Zeon Zoysia in my entire yard. I may buy another to make even better time! Made in the USA, inventor lives in South Carolina. Every now and then a product comes along that works as advertised and makes you feel good about supporting a USA product. ProPlugger is worth the price...

OK, got my pro plugger XL in 2 days, free shipping, Folks if you are struggling like I am with problem areas in your yard and have spent hundreds in seed, only to watch it get washed away, this is your answer. I works perfectly.
These guys make a good product, I called them last year hoping for a plugger for centipede grass. There were honest and told me they were working on it and didn't try and sell me what would not work. I appreciate that. Just plugged 100 or so. EASY, get one !!!

Holy cow--the proplugger is awesome! (Received via e-mail)

"Holy cow--the proplugger is awesome! I am planting zoysia plugs and killed myself last weekend between their no-good cheap step on plugger and the auger attachment to the cordless drill. Four days later I had planted about 1/4 of my front yard and had a sore back from bending down and crawling around on the ground to drill holes. Looking for some solution, I saw a youtube video with someone using proplugger--looked like a dream. I ordered on Friday, received it on Saturday and my wife began using it and had holes in the rest of the yard in a couple of hours. Your product is versatile, easy to use and just plain works. I love it."

Transplanted all my strawberry plants. Wow.

Had a mess in my strawberry patch as I had let them spread like crazy. Got the Pro Plugger XL. This incredible landscaping tool easily removed the strawberry plants out of the ground and enabled me to drop them into my new bed safe and sound...

saved lots of work and time

The Pro Plugger XL was a godsend for replanting border grass. Several of the plants had gotten pretty large and/or needed to be moved, so we decided to line the driveway with root segments broken away from the larger plants. It's about 100 feet or so to line. Most of the work was digging up the existing plants and breaking them up - the Pro Plugger XL made the planting itself easy and quick. It only took minutes to create the planting holes...

Totally Awesome!

...I am so happy I went ahead and spent the few extra bucks for this. If you're considering this you won't be disappointed. if this 55 year old woman can work this thing with little effort, anyone can. I very highly recommend it. Oh..and I just might let the hubby play with it when we tackle the grass.

Pretty neat

Product arrived as promised, seems to be be well built and works as described. Looks like a winner if you have a use for this product.

Great investment!

Great tool! Works as advertised. If you have established zoysia or other creeping grass in your yard then you have your very own sod farm. I wasted $100 on "plugs" from an well advertised zoysia company. You had to cut the plugs from sod and I got about 450 decent plugs out of the shipment. I should have spent my money on this great tool first and it's much easier than cutting sod.

But it's just a tube! NOT!

This simple straightforwardly designed Turf Plugger is a bulb planting powerhouse. The design could not be any simpler, it's just a metal tube with handles welded on. But don't let that fool you. The garlic and shallot garden was done in record time. This awesome tool made a backbreaking task painless! ...

Like using a Pogo Stick - Seems to work well

Design seems to work well...First one I got from Amazon was missing the adapter plates :-( .
Couple things to think about.
I would water my yard ahead of time.
To do a whole yard would take a while but I am sure it can be done, just don't expect miracles overnight. Worked great for removing weeds. Also would seem effective for planting seeds, bulbs, small flowers...

Simple but genius!

This thing doesn't look like it could dig a hole in the ground, but my Mom always told me don't judge a book by its cover. I guess she was right cause this thing digs a perfect plug every time...

Performs as Promised

Did exactly as promised, and much easier to use than I expected. Plugs are easy to remove (surprise) and easy to cut.
